Congratulations and Good Luck to Terry!

I
ce House and Summit coach, Terry McCloskey was married on
Saturday, May 24th. The wedding was beautiful as was Terry.
Many of her students attended as well as several Ice House coaches
and Summit members.
Terry and Tommy are relocating to Rochester Minnesota and we
wish them luck, love and happiness as they start this new chapter of
their lives together. Terry has been a valuable addition to the Greensboro
Ice House coaching staff and to the Summit Figure Skating Club as well.
She will be greatly missed!

The N. C. General Assembly Youth Art Exhibit

Congratulations to Sarah Davis, 5th grader, at Colfax Elementary School
for the acceptance of her artwork for the N. C. General Assembly
Youth Art Exhibit.  The artwork will be displayed in the North Lobby
of the State Legislative Building from March 2008 through January 2009.
This is the top art exhibit for young students in NC.  Sarah’s artwork is
a beautiful NC landscape tempera painting showing a distant view of
rolling hills and trees in western NC.

Art Education Association are extending an invitation to Sarah and her
family to attend a reception to be held on May 19, 2008,

Caroline Nickerson's Historic Senior Moves Test

Many will probably not realize that in the past  9 years of skating
in Greensboro, the April 20th 2008 test session was the first time
a senior test passed by a skater who trained at the Ice House
with a Greensboro coach and on our own sheet of ice. Caroline is
the first skater to achieve this.A couple of Greensboro skaters have
passed over the years, but at other rinks.

Caroline wrote down a goal (as an eight year old) on a worksheet
given her by Nicole ... "be the youngest skater to pass Senior
moves (no later than age 13) in Greensboro".  At the recent
April 20th test session she met that goal,  but only with the help
of many people...Summit included!  Congratulations to Caroline and
coach, Nicole Stalker, on this great and historical achievement!

Summit's Snowflake Spa

Saturday, February 9th, Summit launched the Snowflake Spa
at the Greensboro Ice House's "Valentine Skate" skating event.
The girls from our Snowflake Spa gave mini makeovers to the
other  young girls at the event. Our girls did hair, makeup and
gave manicures. They also sold other accessories to raise
money for Summit. This event was a lot of fun and a big hit.
It should make a great addition for this years Ice house events,
especially State Games. Thank you to all our members, both
parents and skaters who helped out. If you didn't get to help
at this event be sure and sign up and don't miss out on the fun!

A Genuine Standing Ovation Is A Rare A Event.

Not the kind of standing ovation that happens at school plays
or dance recitals. You know, the kind where everyone in the
audience has a child on stage. No, I’m talking about a
spontaneous standing ovation when everyone in a large, diverse
crowd is genuinely moved to pay tribute to an outstanding
performance by standing as one and applauding.

On Dec. 14, 2007 at the Greensboro Coliseum, over 40members
of the Summit Figure Skating Club received a standing ovation for
their incredible performance of Polar Express in the
Sealy Fox 8 Holiday Concert. As I stood and applauded along
with over 15,000 other show attendees, I was so proud of not only
my daughter, but all of the skaters who participated in
the entire show.
As I look back on that night, that standing ovation still gives me
a good feeling. That ovation should also serve as a salute to all
of the the hard work and sacrifices made by the skaters, coaches,
and their friends and families since October.

With pride and admiration,
Joey Bland

A Historical Moment For Summit

A historic moment for Summit Figure Skating Club has taken place.  On Sunday, May 20, 2007, three of our official USFSA members tested in Hillsborough, NC and passed in the levels listed below.
                                                                                          Kelsey Simon     Preliminary Moves
                                                                                          Virginia Bland     Swing Dance
                                                                                          Katie Welsh        Intermediate Moves

These are the first official members of Summit to test since we were given USFSA Provisional Membership status.  This is documentation of a historical event in
the life of our club.  I know you all join me in congratulating these three young ladies on their fine accomplishments.

Summit Is Now An Official
Provisional Member Club of the USFSA

We're excited to announced that in March of 2007, Summit Figure Skating Club received official word from the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA)  that we are now an Official Provisional Member Club!
