2012 Midwestern Sectional Figure Skating Championships in Fort Collins, CO Nov. 15-19.

Wow, what an exciting National Championship we had here in our home town!  I hope you all watched the "Smucker's Skating Spectacular" on TV.  The Coliseum looked wonderful and the lighting was very impressive.  I am still reeling from all the excitement and still a bit fatigued, but so amazingly proud of each and everyone of you and the part you all played in making this event such a great success for North Carolina, (Greensboro in particular); and for the sport of figure skating in our area, as well as in the whole United States.  It will be so wonderful to watch the "World Championship Competition" knowing the winners for the U.S. were decided right here in Greensboro.  I know this competition will take on special meaning for all of us.

 

I want to express my appreciation and thanks for the efforts everyone put forth to make this an event that we can all be proud of for many years to come.  Hopefully, before long we will have the opportunity to be a part of another event such as this right here in our city once again.  No matter what part you played, whether a parent, a skater, volunteer monitor, announcer, sweeper, participant in opening ceremonies, an awards presenter, a "Rise" participant, a spectator, a much appreciated volunteer who represented Summit and the Greensboro Ice House so well as we hosted the unofficial practice ice, please know that your sacrifice of time and participation certainly made quite an impact upon the outcome of this competition.  I personally am extremely proud of the way everyone pulled together to volunteer with pride and excitement.  You impressed our visiting skaters, coaches, judges and visiting supporters with your wonderful "Southern Hospitality".  I have heard nothing but glowing reports of how impressed and appreciative everyone was of the treatment they received while in our city.  The enthusiasm of the crowds and the urge to please and meet the needs of the skaters was so evident, and I know from past experience during my son, Lance's skating career that Greensboro did go "the extra mile" to let each skater know that they were special, and we were so happy and excited to have the opportunity to host this event in our city.

 
My personal gratitude goes out especially to Nicole and Lance, for all their hard work in so many areas of support, as well as the coaches from the other rinks in North Carolina who had such an important part in making Opening Ceremonies so beautiful and impressive.  Also, I was so proud of the sweepers, presenters opening ceremonies participants and "Rise" participants.  This was the opportunity of a lifetime for all of you, and I hope you all realize how fortunate you are to have been a part of this wonderful and inspiring event.

 
Special thanks also to Chuck and the Ice House employees for their participation.  We were so proud to  watch the ice preparation during events being performed by our own Ice House staff.

 

I hope each of you have been renewed and inspired and are ready to work hard to further your participation in this beautiful sport.  Competition season will soon be upon us and I can't wait to see the progress each of you will exhibit during this season.

2011 Qualifying
South Atlantic Regional Championships
Congratulations to Summit member Jessica Tran!
Jessica competed in the Juvenile Girls event at the
Qualifying South Atlantic Regional Figure Skating Championships in Wake Forest, NC.
She placed 3rd in her qualifying round and 5th in the final group of 24 girls earning
a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah in December to compete in the
2011 Junior National Figure Skating Championships.
Jessica was also recognized as the skater who earned the most points through
 spins in the final round at; 9.13 for spins alone.
We wish her all the best for Salt Lake and the Junior Nationals!

Congratulations to Sebastian Lucek who scored his IJS personal best score in the
free skate, placing 7th overall in the Intermediate Men’s event. He is an alternate to the
Junior National Figure Skating Championships as well.

Congratulations to Juvenile Girls competitor Jesse Goldstone for placing 3rd in her
qualifying round and making it into the top 24 Juvenile Girls to compete in the
final round of competition.
